Radioddity CB-5000 Review: The Ultimate SSB/AM/FM Mobile Radio

Dear friends, I am Gianluca (IW7EBB), and I have been a radio amateur for over 25 years. Radioddity, a leading company in the radio communications sector, gave me the opportunity to test their new CB-5000 CB radio, and I must say I am absolutely thrilled with it. It is a versatile, multi-mode, 40-channel CB radio designed for truck drivers, off-road enthusiasts, and CB operators who need a reliable communication tool for any operating condition. Supporting AM, FM, SSB, CW, and PA modes, it offers flexible operation for long-distance communication and emergency situations, making it an excellent travel companion for RVs, trucks, and passenger cars alike.

Built with a sturdy aluminum chassis, it can be powered by 12V/24V DC and is easy to install using the convenient bracket and screw kit provided; a key feature is the integrated overvoltage protection circuit. The bright, 5-level TFT color display ensures clear visibility day and night, making channel information and radio settings easy to read under varying lighting conditions, such as at night.

The advanced NRC noise reduction circuit adjustable across five continuous levels for both transmission and reception helps minimize engine, road, and wind noise to ensure clearer communication, while an SSB output power of up to 12W enables long-range contacts when propagation conditions allow. A key strength of this radio is its sophisticated technology and reliability comparable to professional HF equipment packed into a remarkably compact form factor. The NB/ANL filters perform excellently, and various scanning modes are available.

The SWR warning system (customizable, adjustable from 1.0 to 20.0) works very well and is a truly useful feature for monitoring the performance of base or mobile antennas, thereby protecting the radio's power output stage.

The internal menus allow for complete customization of the radio, including an efficient SSB clarifier that ensures precise frequency alignment. The standard-issue microphone is robust and versatile, featuring three buttons one of which is user-programmable. The ECHO and Roger Beep functions are worthy of professional-grade COLT CB radios.

Audio output is loud and robust in both 4K and 3K modes, with additional microphone gain adjustment. It would have been useful to include an input for an external CW key, given that the radio is capable of operating in this mode.

My verdict on this radio is extremely positive; I recommend it both to those new to the world of telecommunications and to experienced radio operators. DX contacts are guaranteed. A heartfelt thank you to Radioddity for this opportunity.
